An accumulator tank is an important part of any pressurised water system that includes a pressure-controlled pump. (Some modern computer-controlled pumps may not require an accumulator tank, but see Section B – Expansion tanks.)

The SBC system has a high pressure accumulator that stores pressures to apply the brakes. If the mechanic wasn’t careful the system could have jammed a check valve open preventing the accumulator from holding pressure. The system is relatively simple but you had better know what you are doing before working on these brakes.

Is the SBC system covered under the 10 year warranty?
If you still have warranty the service advisers will always have the tech scan your SBC system to see if it’s just a software update or if it needs a new reservoir and in most cases its just the reservoir and the software update. Then they will turn around and tell you that reservoir is not covered under the 10 year warranty.
