The starter relay does that job. They are cheap and easy and don’t complicate the wiring that much. Using one also reduces the length of wire between battery and starter / solenoid. This keeps the voltage drop to a minimum. Don’t know if they all do it, but mine is very sensitive to voltage drop when it’s cranking
