Can you change the exhaust filter on a Duramax?
Unless you can drive the truck and get it to regen you will be dead in the water. If you change the exhaust and not program it you will get a CEL. Some have done fine without programming but you run the risk. I would see if you cannot sit in it and bring your RPMs up to make it regen.
What causes a Duramax diesel engine to heat up?
When the engine is working hard, the turbocharger is drawing in a ton of air, and the restrictive stock turbo inlet tube can effectively choke the VGT turbocharger causing the compressor outlet temperature to skyrocket, heating up the intercooler, and ultimately raising the temperature of combustion and the coolant temp.
When did the first Duramax V8 engine come out?
Duramax Engine LB7 2001 to 2004 The first Duramax V8 was introduced in 2001 and was given the code name LB7. The introduction of common rail injection powered by the Bosch CP3 injection pump made the LB7 Duramax stand apart from other diesels of the day with excellent power and efficiency.
How much power does a Duramax Diesel have?
Power was at an all-time high coming in at 397hp and 765 pounds of torque, and in order to provide this much power while still keeping pollutants low, GM needed to be able to increase the pressure in the fuel system to levels above what the tried-and-true CP3 could safely deliver.

Where did the smoke come from in my Chevy Duramax?
As I tried to keep the truck moving enough to pull off to the side of the road, blue/white smoke came pouring out of the right front fender well so we stopped and bailed out. The smoke stopped immediately and 30 minutes later I was able to drive the truck again.
