Can wrong valve clearance cause no start?
In most cases as the valve seat and valve head wear they start to pocket into the head, This reduces the clearances ,if the clearance is reduced to nothing the valve is held open slightly, this reduces the compression of the engine and in turn it will be hard to start .
How are the valves on a Nissan truck adjusted?
Turn the crankshaft nut one more complete revolution to bring the No. 4 piston to top dead center on the compression stroke. From this position, you can adjust the 3, 5, 7 and 8 valves in the same manner as the other four.
Do you need to adjust the valve on a Nissan Versa?
Thanks! It probably needs a valve adjustment, but these (like many Nissan motors) use shim and bucket lifters, to bring the clearance back to spec you need to order the proper thickness shim. I’ve explored doing it since my 1.8 has 325 000KM on it, has sounded like a TDI at idle for a long time.
Why does my engine need a valve clearance adjustment?
Loss of power could be a sign of a weak or broken valve spring, for example. Checking valve clearance requires removing the valve cover (or two valve covers on V-type engines) and measuring the space between both intake and exhaust valves and their lobes or rocker arms using thin feeler gauges as pictured above.
What are the problems caused by bad valve adjustment?
Damaged Valves. The most serious result of incorrect valve lash adjustment is damage to the valves and related components. Setting the clearances loosely causes parts of the valve mechanism to hammer together, damaging valves and creating a knocking or rattling sound.

Do you need a valve clearance adjustment on a car?
(The camshaft must be in the proper position and each valve fully closed for each measurement.) If necessary, adjustment requires installing or replacing shims using special tools, and it isn’t a quick in-and-out maintenance item like an oil change, especially on engines that have three or four valves per cylinder.
What happens if you have too much valve clearance?
Too much clearance means the valves will likely clatter and, over the long term, cause damage to the valves, camshaft lobes or rocker arms. If there’s too little valve clearance, the valves won’t fully close, causing excessive heat, and the engine will lose power.
