Can I paint my brake rotors?
Paint on some surfaces can cause the caliper to seize. DON’T paint the areas of the rotor/disc that make contact with the pads. Paint contains components that can contaminate the brake pad and change the friction levels. This contamination can stick around long after the rotors looks like it is nice and shiny.
How do you clean painted brake rotors?
Use Brake Cleaner to Remove Rust From the Rotors Put down a tray to catch any runoff, then spray the rotor with brake cleaner. Let the rotor dry, then wipe it with a clean rag (no oil on the rag). If some rust remains, apply more brake cleaner and work the surface with steel wool or a wire brush.
What happens if you get paint on your rotors?
Is it OK to paint brake drums?
It really depends how you use the car. If it is a daily driver, you will probably not hear the drums enough to burn off even regular paint, not to mention high heat. If the car is a track car or you live in the mountains, where you are using brakes constantly, than paint becomes a poor choice.
What’s the difference between coated and uncoated brake rotors?
The entire rotor including its interior has a baked on, robotic applied coating for long lasting rust protection, compared to an uncoated rotor. Edges and vanes also stay cleaner longer, for optimal cooling. Vanes play a key role in safety and performance.
What can I clean my rotors with?
Use a dedicated cleaner or soap with water. Spray the rotor with your can of brake cleaner, per the can’s instructions. If using soap and water, spray or dip a rag into the solution and wipe the entire rotor down. Some brake cleaners simply require a good wipe down after using the spray.
How long do painted rotors last?
Under normal driving conditions, rotors should last 30,000 to 70,000 miles or longer.
Can I use engine enamel on brake drums?
I’ve had excellent results with Rustoleum Engine enamel for painting drums/calipers. Just clean the drums with a wire brush and then spray with some brake cleaner and let it dry. Then just simply spray on two or three light coats of Rustoleum Engine enamel.
What’s the best way to clean your brake rotors?
Rust and corrosion can build up on the rotors and hubs. Here are different ways to clean surface rust on your brake rotors: No matter which method you use, your brake system will thank you. Cleaning brake rotors of dust, rust, and corrosion helps the look of your wheels, but also helps make sure your brake system will work with no interruptions.

What’s the best way to paint brake drums?
Wire brush first ( as texases suggests) then spray them black with a rattle can. I do it every year when rotating tires and it looks good, especially if you have wheels where you can see the drums. Dollar store black is good enough. It takes only a few minutes and costs almost nothing. Rocketman
What to do about rust on brake drums?
Rust on the outside will not effect how the drums pull off. There might be rust around the center opening though. Wire brush the rim and some of the inside of the drum and brush some anti sieze on it. I do not if Toy still does it but they did have a couple of screws holding the drum on.
