Can a porcelain spark plug cause an engine to run bad?
The porcelain in and of itself would not cause the engine to run good then bad then allow it to run good again. It should be a steady state (either bad or good, depending on damage or no damage). If you are getting something on again/off again as far as how it is running, I think you’re looking in the wrong place.
What happens when a spark plug goes out in a car?
It can result in incomplete combustion and damage to the catalytic converter of the car. Faulty spark plugs can cause the car to exhibit starting troubles. Worn out plugs does not produce sufficient sparks, which is needed for starting the engine. This results in the engine to stall and fail to start quickly.
Can a spark plug drop into a cylinder?
While it could be an issue for the porcelain to drop into the cylinder, it’s not going to make your car run bad. Either there is damage to the engine or components and the engine will run crappy all the time (if it were to run at all), or it will run just fine all the time where you wouldn’t notice anything had happened.
What do the marks on the spark plugs mean?
An examination, or “reading” of the characteristic markings on the firing end of the spark plug can indicate conditions within the running engine. The spark plug’s firing end will be affected by the internal environment and will bear the marks as evidence of what is happening inside the engine while running.
What happens if porcelain falls into Spark Plug?
If so, the damage is already done there, but the damage would be very minimal to a point you’d wouldn’t know there was damage. The porcelain in and of itself would not cause the engine to run good then bad then allow it to run good again.
What happens if the spark plug goes out in a car?
The cylinder head and piston will also be damaged beyond repair, but they probably will not immediately cause the engine to fail. After that, the crushed-up ceramic will run through the oil and scratch up everything that gets oil and needs to be kept smooth and clean. The engine may run for a short period, but it will be permanently damaged.

Is there a hole in the spark plug?
There’s no clear hole out of the system. The pieces will not melt – ceramic and spark tip are in the combustion chamber for every explosion, so they’re built for these conditions. Also – you should change all the spark plugs even if the others look OK.
