What causes rough idle and low rpm at startup?
You start the engine cold and it will hardly run. It runs rough and idles very low and will even quit a few times. You may also notice that your ABS light comes on. After the engine warms up idle speed will increase and the engine may smooth out (although acceleration may have some hesitation until the engine gets real hot.

What does 8V mean on a Mercedes 500SL?
Ok. 8V at X11 with ignition ON but engine OFF, and coolant temperature less than 70deg C signifies all parameters are in order. With engine running you got 1-4V fluctuating at X11. This is equivalent to an OFF/ON ratio of 67% to 92%, which indicates a lean KE baseline mixture setting. Engine would be very unhappy.
What happens when the idle control motor is disconnected?
With the Idle Control Motor disconnected, get back into the vehicle and start the engine again. The engine should still start and run without any issue despite the idle control motor being disconnected. Be sure to tuck the wiring you disconnected up in the engine bay so it doesn’t get caught in any moving parts.
What should idle speed be on Mercedes 500SL?
If the voltage is c. 70% of the battery voltage, then the fuel injection ECU recognizes that the throttle is closed, and it should be in its idle control routine. The next step is to measure the current output by the ECU to the idle speed control valve — it should be 700-1000 milli-amps.
