Why is my C4 hatch high level brake light not working?
About two months ago the high level brake light plus the low level one on the RHS stopped working on my 2005 C4. I replaced the low level bulb and all was OK – until today. Now the high level light has stopped working again but the other two are OK. Can anyone offer any suggestions as to whether these two events are connected?

Yes the wiring fault affects 5 door hatch’s as well as coupés, but not in so many numbers. No reason why you shouldn’t be able to hook the light unit up to a battery to see if they are working OK but as you say, they are LED so rarely go wrong.

This forum has plenty of comments re failure of the tailgate wiring (inside the protective rubber cover) for the Coupe but nothing reported for to the hatch. Should I check the flexible wiring beneath the cover as a starting point?

Ok , so working out issues on this 1989 FLHTCU I fixed the brake lights , the wires in the left side panel had to be cleaned a soldered then they stopped working again. I did a repeat on the test light still had power to the wires at the switch on the rear.
