Why is my bike throttle sticking?
A sticky throttle could be caused by worn cables, lack of lubrication in the cables or the cable getting bound up somewhere in the mechanism. Or it can be caused by an issue with the carburetor or EFI. If the screws in the throttle housing are too tight it could cause the cable to stick.
What does bike idle mean?
Idle is the engine condition where the engine is running but you are not touching the throttle grip. So your motorcycle engine is running at idle speed when you start it up in the morning (Until you start riding the bike), or when you are stopping at a red light and the engine is kept running.
How to troubleshoot an electric ebike throttle problem?
1 Check that the e-brake lever is not damaged or engaged. If engaged, this will keep the throttle / motor from operating. 2 Check the connection between the motor and the controller. This is a 3 wire square plug and a 5 wire rectangular plug. 3 Throttle may have become dis-connected or damaged.
What causes the throttle return cable to stick?
The ONLY thing I see is helping is if the throttle return spring on the carb breaks. If one cable siezes / sticks, then the other cable is going to be stuck, also. It’s all one assembly. You can’t have only one cable acting up, if one acts up the other is going to have exactly the same issue.
Is the close throttle cable a pull cable?
Correct, the “close throttle” cable is a pull cable just like the “open throttle” cable is a pull cable. Joseph, the ‘close throttle” cable IS getting “pushed” when you give the bike throttle and can be subject to binding.
When did racebikes need push pull throttle cables?
Back in the late 70s a lot of racers fitted the big round slide smoothbore carbs to racebikes and without the close cable installed the carbs would hang open for a split second after wide open accelleration causing many sets of wet panties and crashes. The 2 cable setup was mandated on the racetrack first. Thanks for the info guys.
What do you need to know about throttle wiring?
Your throttle wiring should go as follows… Throttle’s 3 wire Black connector wires to controller’s 3 wire white throttle connector. (LOW voltage) GREEN to GREEN or BLUE. (throttle signal) Bit of a discrepancy as the wiring color in the picture looks blue, but the controller sticker states green.
Why is my throttle not working on my electric bike?
The potential problem using a resistor instead of just shorting out the connectors has to do with the current capacity of +5v voltage regulator and the input impedance of throttle signal wire on the controller. It the input impedance is too low you can fry something. Nine time out of ten you will be just fine.

Can you add a throttle to an ebike?
I have an ebike that does not have a throttle (just pedal assist) and has no connection for a throttle. I was thinking about trying to add a button throttle by splicing into the wires of the pedal assist sensor. Can this be done or would it cause issues.
