The rear hatch does not work when using the switch on the remote or in the vehicle. It just beeps and tries to open, but the door does not release. You have to manually open the door.

Click here to learn how! Just bought a 2017 escape with a power rear hatch, when it closes it does not completly close. If you grab the handle and pull up slightly it will engage the power mechanism and close the hatch tightly. It goes all the way down but doesn’t engage the auto lock mechanism.

I’ve got a 2005 XLE with the power rear hatch. I think I’ve verified (and repeated) the problem with the hatch not retracting when it encounters an obstacle. Just a little background: Last year (first year of ownership) the hatch closed on me and would not retract. And, I was pushing back on this thing by arching my back.
