Why is my 4L60E not shifting into overdrive?
As the 4L60E ages, one of the most common problems that it develops is that it won’t shift into overdrive anymore. Without overdrive, your vehicle turns into a time machine and takes you back to an era where it was the norm for a vehicle to scream down the highway at 3000 RPM.

What happens when downshift solenoid does not work?
If the downshift solenoid fails or has an issue, the vehicle may experience late shifting when slowing down. The transmission may stay engaged in a higher gear for an extended period of time when it should be downshifting. This will cause the engine to over rev, and may put additional unnecessary strain on the engine and transmission.

There may be a failure with the connections between the gear shifter and the dashboard mechanism. Shift into drive and drive forward slowly at first, accelerating more as you move. Check to see if the Revolutions per Minute (RPM) reaches 3,000 before shifting gears, or if it goes higher to 4,000 or 5,000 and then shifts.
