Why does my new starter make a whirring sound?
I had moved since putting the new starter in so I had to take it to a different mechanic. He said the 3 month old starter was spinning (the whirring sound) but the arm was not coming out to engage the flywheel and he put in another new starter.

Using a flashlight you can inspect the teeth on the flywheel for any abnormal wear, then use a ½ inch ratchet and correct size socket for the crankshaft pulley bolt, and turn the engine clockwise. This will allow you to slowly inspect the hidden areas of the flywheel that could be damaged.
Why does my riding mower whine when first starting?
Especially so when choke – first starting. This solenoid is different in setup than the one that was on it, but part number matches. There is power getting to the starter unless something is magically trying to turn the engine when I turn the key.
