Why does my Honda rancher 4×4 not start?
I have an ’05 Rancher 4X4 that will not start. It was not left sitting for a long period of time. But when it would not start, I thought perhaps I had bad fuel. So I disconnected fuel line and drained tank. Flow was good. Put in fresh fuel and replaced spark plug. After a bit of trying, it started for about 2 secs and died.

The problem occurs even more often when it is cold outside. Fortunately, the answer/fix to the problem is really very easy! The problem is caused by very heavy, stiff, gummy grease that was installed in the shift motor gears at the factory. Once that grease is removed and replaced with a different grease, you’ll be back to shifting normally!
