Why did my Renault Megane not start up?
If and when the choke was in the wrong position for the temp of the engine, the engine either wouldn’t start or coughed and spluttered… exactly the same, temp related too.. So, without the aid of plug in diagnostics at the moment and the results thereof – its well worth renewing that sensor.

I have a Renault Megane III 1.5dCi World Series 2009. Mileage 68,000. In cold weather the car is now very poor in starting in the morning. Thick black smoke from unburnt diesel. Once started it will happily start again without a problem. Took it to my local garage (non Renault) who diagnosed required new glow plugs.

Why does my Renault Megane take so long to start?
Sometimes I get a slow crank when the engine is ice cold, but it always starts. If I run the car for 30 mins+ then turn the engine off, then back on within a few minutes, this is when I get a tremendously slow crank and usually the car won’t start on first attempt.

The Ecu then sends commands to the fueling and ignition systems according. If the sensor is faulty and thus sends incorrect , or no info to the ecu as above, the fuel and air mixture will be incorrect and thus do as you describe resulting in poor running and no start situations…
