Why are the parking lights not turning off?
Now tonight the parking lights and dash lights won’t turn off when I turn them off or remove the keys. I tried pulling the lighting array fuse, instrument panel fuse but they wouldn’t go off. Finally just loosened the main fuse so my battery wouldn’t drain. I bought it used with after market alarm, so previous owner monkeyed with wiring.

The grommet has worn, indented, and doesn’t depress the switch in far enough to turn the lights off… new rubber grommet solves the problem… Parking lights stay on, even when switched off, key removed from ignition and doors locked. Battery has drained several times.

Get the parking lights to stay on, and apply the parking brake. Some of these trucks had DRL (day time running lights) If it has the DRL setup and it is malfunctioning it will do some strange things sometimes. Applying the parking brakes turns off the DRL setup.

Why are the park lights not turning off?
The park lights, headlights and dash lights are all independent of the ignition switch (key) position, so that part is normal. The fact that they stay on when the light switch is off is likely related to the aftermarket alarm system and/or wiring.

Problem is solved. I had simply *completely* forgotten about the stupid parking light switch on the steering column. One of the two places I took the car to today, the guy must’ve just flipped the switch on accident.
