Your brake lights and turn signals for each side are on one circuit. The left side turn signal and brake light is generally the yellow wire going into your trailer connector. The first thing to do is check the fuses on your tow vehicle. Next, inspect and test the connector at the rear of your tow vehicle with a circuit tester, like # 40376.

Why does my brake light work when I Turn on the turn signal?
For that to work, the brake wire runs to the turn indicator, so that when you turn on the flashing turn signal, it switches out the brake light signal for that side so that the two signals don’t collide. So don’t just check the brake light. Also check the turn signals.

What to do when front brake light doesnt work?
If the front is flashing then you need to check the wiring at the BCM and see if it is sending the signal to the light in the rear. If the Bcm is sending out the signal to flash the light then follow the wiring until you lose the signal to find the open in the circuit. Or, check to make sure you have a good ground at the light socket.
