Which way do pocket screws go?
Again, plan the direction the screws are headed. This is the correct way: the screw goes into the face grain of the board away from the end. Don’t screw them in with the tips pointing toward the outside edge of the board’s end. The screw doesn’t have enough wood to hold it in place.
What is the purpose of a pocket screw?
Self tapping pocket screws are used for pocket hole joints. Pocket screws are generally more expensive, but they are needed for a tight, strong joint. Pocket screws have a wide washer head to prevent screwing too far into the joint and cracking the wood.
Why are pocket hole screws Square?
The Kreg screws use a square or “Roberts” head screw for their pocket hole joints. The square-headed bits are probably not as important a quality as self-tapping or the washer head; however, the square head of the Kreg screw allows the drill to get optimal torque and control without stripping the screws.
Are Kreg screws necessary?
You really do need to use Kreg screws when using the Kreg jig. The screws come specially designed to work with the holes that are drilled by the Kreg jig. Trying to use other screws will not properly bring the wood together.
