Just take out those 2 bolts and pull the sensor out of the bell housing. For the 2.5L/automatic the sensor is help in place with 2 nuts instead of bolts. The YJ Wranglers that come with the 4.0/automatic, the sensor uses a single slotted hole to adjust the mounting depth.

Then go from there. 1999, Wrangler Sport, 4.0L, Auto, OK so you don’t reset the CPS, What will cause the rough idle after installation of new Crankshaft Position Sensor, rpm’s jumping around. I pulled the gnd. cable off for approx. 15 sec, will redo with more time disconnected. maybe try the replacing the cam sensor.
Can a 4.0 camshaft sensor go bad?
Have never even heard of a 4.0 cam going bad………..what makes them think its bad? have they watched the valves move? do you have metal shavings in your oil? have they done a compression and leakdown test? imho I would be looking alot of other places first, such as the crankshaft position sensor.
