A small bolt goes through the strap, into the threaded hole. The other large post is where the battery cable connects. The two smaller posts. One is marked with an S and the other an I. When mounted on the starter, the one closest to the engine is where the ‘exciter’ wire connects.

The new starter is in. And the positive cable is brand new as well and all other cables are tight and clean. There was a build up of corrosion on the positive terminal and cable so we replaced the cable and cleaned the terminal.

What does no crank / no start mean?
It started as a no crank/ no start (no click,dash lights came on and didn’t dim, only sound was fuel pump) about a month ago. Initially (when I hadn’t replaced anything yet) out of about 100 crank attempts, around the 80th attempt it randomly started up then died after a few seconds and wouldn’t crank or start again.
What should the battery voltage be to crank the engine?
Once your battery is at 12.6 volts, there will be no problem cranking the engine if the cables and connections are in good shape. When the engine is running, measure the battery’s voltage again.
