When do you get transmission over temp message?
2006 4.7 WK just got a message for the first time “transmission over temp” in dash/evac. I stopped to go into a store and check the transmission oil temp and it was in the hot zone on the stick. 2 nights ago I tried to boost a friend’s car and had it charging his battery for around 10 minutes.*
Why is my Jeep transmission over temp coming on?
I had the same issue with the trans over temp and fan coming on, had a transmission shop check the temperature and it was spiking up and down all over the place; however, when they checked the trans dip stick it was ice cold. They told me it was possibly a faulty sensor within a solenoid pack inside the trans.
Why is my transmission fluid not overheating?
Than yesterday I got the message back, the transmission fluid is not overheating and was also changed 1-2 years ago. Fix anything you have on low voltage like a bad battery or a parasitic drain. Low voltage in the system will cause erroneous DTC in the PCM and will lead you to try chasing something that’s not broke….
How does Trans shift when Tot is not on?
Trans always shifts fine when TOT is not on. Couldn’t find answers by asking dealers or local shops or surfing web. Bought an infrared thermometer and for awhile when light came on I pulled over and shot the ray at tranny pan. Temp was always at 180 degrees (give or take a few) which is spec.
What should the temperature of a transmission be?
Keeping the transmission temperature between 175 and 200 degrees will allow the fluid to last the longest. This is the normal operating temperature for a transmission.
What causes transmission over temp message to go off?
If after replacing the temperature sensor/ transducer and the DTC resets, check the wiring harness for a rub through or chaffing that will cause a short to another circuit. Confucious says: Don’t eat the snow where the huskies go!
How does heat affect the life of a transmission?
In fact, heat is responsible for more transmission failures than anything else. The ideal temperature for your transmission is 200 degrees. For every 20 degrees past 200, the lifespan of your transmission is reduced by a factor of 2. In other words, if you hit 220 degrees, you can expect to get about half the normal life out of your transmission.
How can you tell if your transmission is overheating?
Checking your transmission fluid can help you to determine if your transmission is overheating. Transmission fluid isn’t like engine oil – it doesn’t burn up under normal circumstances. If the fluid level is down, then there is a very good chance that something is wrong. And if the fluid is dark, it is almost certain that you are overheating.
