When do you change your stock drive belt?
A friend had a rock hole in the middle of his belt and rode like that the rest of the season and replaced it over the winter just not wanting to push his luck any further. It’s something to keep an eye on and when you start worrrying about it just go ahead and change it to put you’re mind at ease.

You should feel an hear the jackshaft engaging, and hear the starter turning, but not the engine. You could also just pop the derby cover and look with a flashlight and have someone hit the stater button also. You will see it popping in and out. If it was the realay you would not hear anything or maybe a very slight click/tick.

What causes a Harley Davidson starter to kick out?
I hit the starter and the engine turned about a half a revolution and stopped with the same sound of a dead battery. The starter did push through it but after about 1/2 of a revolution, the engine kicked back as if the timing was too advanced. That caused the starter pinion to kick out of the ring gear which resulted in the starter grinding.
