What to use to remove timing chain drive sprocket?
A dedicated puller should be used for the removal, an hydraulic press for the re-installation. Update: I screwed the flywheel nut on and struck the end of the crankshaft with nut a few times while securing the sprocket. The sprocket did not move and I noticed the threaded end of the crank with nut was bent.
How much does it cost to replace a crankshaft sprocket?
Kawahonda has a huge bike salvage yard down the road he can check out. Or I can drop this crank off at a shop and be prepared to pay $100-$300 to replace the sprocket. At the same time, they might as well change out the two main bearings. Or he can get a new crank assembly hopefully with original stroke geometry.
What happens when the timing belt is removed?
Once the timing belt is removed the timing gear slides right off. Little to no force needed. Had the same issue as OP. Well folks since the strength of the connection is based on the TTY bolt I decided to JB weld the index tab on instead of replacing the whole sprocket.
Where does the sprocket alignment need to be?
FYI, sprocket alignment should have the bottom of the “V”, between two teeth, centered with the keyway. Enginedoctor likes this. Reply to Bob.
What happens when you remove the timing sprocket?
Hi all, after not torqueing the crank pulley/harmonic balancer back on the timing sprocket tight enough, the pulley sheared the cast alignment guide off. Thankfully that was all the damage that happened as the bolt had not spun out much before I picked up on the problem.
Can a crankshaft sprocket be removed from a car?
In general, these are not that tight a fit as the center bolt is designed to ‘pinch’ the assembly’s…..that’s why the suggested torque is so high. It is designed to be removeable and must be to service the front crankshaft seal.
