What to look for in a Cummins NTC 350?
The best place to inspect for this is the exhaust side of the engine. Look for coolant or heavy water stains on top of the deck running down under the exhaust manifold. If it is the original engine I would say it is likely a Big Cam III. You can identify it by looking at the oil cooler. Big Cam I and II’s used a large body oil cooler.

Why is my Cummins NTC 350 leaking coolant?
This can be caused by a bad head gasket and/or worse coolant leaking out of the counterbore area which is a serious repair bill. This was a fairly common problem with the Big Cam series until they went with the lower press fit liners.
Why does my Cummins Engine have black smoke?
Thanks td actually when cold and at idle slightly black smoke, if you rev up the engine it turns white and gets worse really bad when warmed up. It does not stop smoking and give it fuel and wow the smoke is amazing. My engine does not have an aftercooler.
