How to Release a STUCK Shift Lock Release
- Engage the emergency brake / parking brake.
- Find the shift lock override slot.
- Insert a key, nail file, or screwdriver into the slot.
- Press the brake pedal while you are pressing down on the override,
- Shift gears as you normally would.
What to do when your Nissan Altima is stuck in Park?
Rock the vehicle with your foot off the brake. Press the brake down when you have rocked toward the hill a bit. You want to “catch” it with the brake at the right time. This will take pressure off of the parking lock. Apply light pressure to the shifter.
Can a Altima shift out of Park to reverse?

Did some research and found that there is a shift lock solenoid and a Park Position Switch (that senses when the car is in park) that work together. Apparently there is a short that will happen in the park position switch (??) and not allow the two to communicate.

Remove the old switch solder the connetor from old switch to the new switch snaps back in place. With the console out takes 15 minutes to repair. Rock solid now. Thanks for the info.
