What kind of gearing do you need for a YZ250?

I’m in the process of replacing the drivetrain on my YZ250. Stock gear is 14/50. I want to gear down a bit, would it be crazy to start with a 52t rear sprocket, then put on a 13t front if even lower gearing required. The bike is new to me, but quite rideable.

What kind of sprocket does a Yamaha YZ250 use?

I have a 2004 YZ250. I run 14/52. I just put on a FMF Gnarly, FMF TC2, leaned the jetting, installed GYTR off road fly wheel, and did a top end using a Wiseco pro-lite. Third and fourth gear wheelies are now simple to do. In fact, they’re too prevalent.

When did the Yamaha YZ250 2 stroke come out?

1977: Yamaha caught back up quickly. A whole new bike was released with a super-small motor, a lighter frame, and more travel. The fuel tank was plastic and the swingarm was steel. The 1978 model looked almost identical, but had more travel and an aluminum swingarm.

What was the significance of the YZ250 in 1982?

1982: Everything changed, and not necessarily in a good way. The 1982 YZ250 was a technological milestone. It was liquid-cooled with the radiator mounted on the forks. It got the first production power-valve and it got linkage between the swingarm and shock. Almost all of these measures were ineffective and redesigned later.

How many teeth does a Yamaha YZ250 have?

It’s: 15 Teeth on the front/ 48 Teeth on the rear. How is this? I only do trail riding, sand pit riding etc… Not really any tracks. Any comments will be appreciated! ? Oof that’s really tall. I would think it might be really hard to go slow in the tight spots on the trail. 15/48 sounds more like desert riding ratio.
