The OEM battery in my 13-month-old Forester Touring had to be jump-started yesterday after sitting unused in my driveway for a few days. It wasn’t dead – the headlights and dashboard lit up – but it wasn’t producing enough juice to turn over the engine.

This is a huge problem and I have no idea what to do. I’ve contacted my sales agent who is going to try and connect me to a Subaru specialist (mechanic) to investigate.
What to do about a dead battery in a forester?
If an unacceptable level of drain is detected (I’d guess say more than 50 mA) then the car should be hooked up to a professional scan tool (with a professional technician behind it) to trace what’s causing the drain. Might be tricky to track down in terms of being time consuming, hence dealer’s reluctance to dive into it.

To say the least after 5 hours of driving the battery should have been fully charged and no problem with the radio only running. I replaced it with an x-Treeme starter deep cycle battery from Batteries plus bulbs. It is made by Northstar and are generally well liked quality batteries.
