What is this oily sludge beneath my prop?
The oil that this boater was seeing is probably partially burned 50:1 oil from the engine powerhead. This mixture of oil and carbon builds up in the exhaust chamber of the engine, and eventually will wash off and drain out. The result is a very black oily sludge coming from the propeller.
Is water supposed to come out of prop?
Yes, water should come out of the prop hub with the exhaust.

Even though there is a slight vacuum there will be some loss of oil. Tighten both the lower and upper drain plugs and wipe off any oil that may have fallen on to your lower unit. A marine specific lower unit gear lubricant should only be utilized in a Mercury outboard.

How long does it take to drain oil from Mercury?
Now remove the top drain plug; this will release the vacuum that exists and allow the oil to drain freely from the Mercury lower unit. Allow all of the oil to drain completely from the lower unit. Is there a hard fix for gear oil leaking?
Re: gear oil leaking from prop area, HARD FIX???? Just took my 200 EFI lower unit apart without any special tools. For my first time it wasn’t too bad, disassembly was about a hour. I would do it myself, go ahead an install the seal kit. Re: gear oil leaking from prop area, HARD FIX????
