What is the difference between Alveopora and Goniopora?
Where they differ is the number of tentacles on each polyp. Alveopora have 12 tentacles on each polyp while Goniopora have 24. That is the quickest and easiest way to differentiate the two. Second, Alveopora may be a hardier specimen than Goniopora.
Is Alveopora easy?
Alveopora are very easy to take care of when it comes to water flow, and they are also very rewarding. Alveopora’s polyps are very reactive to stimuli, and if they dislike the intensity of the current, they will promptly retract. If you’re a bit timid about setting the water flow high, don’t worry!
Will Alveopora sting other corals?
The Alveopora Coral is a large polyp stony (LPS) coral also referred to as the Alveopora Daisy, Flowerpot, Sunflower, or Ball Coral. Its polyps can extend far past its base into the reef aquarium, where it can sting other species of corals.
Is Alveopora hard to keep?
I’ve already posted a thread asking this question, and most said that Alveopora are easier to take care of and last a little longer than Goniopora. And doesn’t require much to survive. But I just got Aquarium Corals Book by Eric H. Borneman and its captive care states the same as Goniopora-They slowly waste away.
Can you put Goniopora next to each other?
Goniopora can be very aggressive but not all are. Some can be next to each other while others are not. They can also put sweepers out pretty far if need be. It can happen fast since gonis are very touchy.
Do goniopora like high flow?
Goniopora appreciate low to medium flow, but preferably with some randomness to it. That way you will get that gentle waving motion which helps keep the coral clean and brings food past the colony.
Do goniopora like dirty water?
I have mine in medium light and medium/strong flow. They are like euphyllia and like dirty water.
Are goniopora easy to keep?
I just talked to the owner from the store who held the auction and he said they used to be difficult because no one knew how to feed them but that Reef roids was especially made for them and since that product became available, they are easy to keep.
What’s the difference between Goniopora and Alveopora?
As with Goniopora, space should be left around the coral as it can expand to several times the size of its skeleton. Frags of this lovely coral are roughly 1″. Alveopora is a delicate type of LPS similar to Goniopora but with 12 tentacles instead of 24. Many aquarists find Alveopora easier to care for than Goniopora.
What kind of food does an Alveopora need?
Alveopora relies heavily on the products of their zooxanthellae. This coral may benefit from the addition of phytoplankton as a food source. While the coral itself may consume some phytoplankton, the real benefit is the increased population of rotifers that feed on the phytoplankton. Rotifers make a good meal to a vast array of corals.
What is the base color of an Alveopora?
These Alveopora have either a blueish-white base color or purple/pinkish-cream and may have some slight green highlights under actinic lighting. As with Goniopora, space should be left around the coral as it can expand to several times the size of its skeleton.
Is the Alveopora coral a fast growing coral?
Alveopora are not a super fast growing coral compared to some fast growing SPS, but for a large polyp stony coral, they are pretty fast. In that sense, they rely on a steady uptake of these major elements to keep growing. I’ve made separate videos about each of these chemical parameters that are worth checking out. Let’s start with Calcium.
