What helps ear pain after surgery?
Most children have mild to moderate pain for a few days after surgery. Acetaminophen (Tylenol®) and ibuprofen (Advil®, Motrin®) should be used to relieve any discomfort.
Can you take ibuprofen after ear surgery?
DO NOT TAKE Aspirin, Motrin, Ibuprofen, Alka-Seltzer or compounds containing these medicines since they can lead to increased bleeding after surgery. Tylenol is OK. If you have any questions regarding which medications to take, please call the office anytime.
Can I use headphones after ear surgery?
Do not put earphones in the ear for the first month. A bath can be taken. Be careful not to wet the operated ear. 7 to 10 days after surgery, your doctor removes the bandage.
How should I sleep after ear surgery?
You should rest with your head elevated in a recliner or with at least 2 pillows for at least the first week after surgery. Try not to sleep on the side of your face but rather sleep with the back of your head on the pillow for about two weeks. Some patients prefer an airline type pillow for comfort.
When can I shower after tympanoplasty?
You may shower 48 hours after the operation. When showering, place a small clean piece of cotton dipped in Vaseline in your outer ear opening to keep water out. If you have packing in your ear, this may be placed directly over the packing. Remove the cotton after showering is complete.
