What happens when you jump out of 2nd gear?
When I move into 2nd gear it pops out after a about a 1 second or 2, I put in back in and it keeps happening. Right now Im just going from 1st to 3rd gear to avoid the problem.

On earlier model V-Max’s, the regulator/rectifier is much different than the later model. The new model is much more heat tolerant and has a ground that connects directly to the negative battery post. The older model appears to be an inferior design that adversely affects the charging system.

If your going to take your seat off and remove the battery try this next time, apparently on your positive cable there should be electrical tape put there by the factory. unravel the tape. There should be a crimp there joining more than one wire together.

Why does my bike go from 2nd to 5th gear?
I have a 2005 Suzuki Vstrom 650 and it’s been a great bike so far. At pretty high revs, 9k-10k or so, it will occasionally go from 2nd -> Neutral, and I think the same thing happened once going 6th -> 5th gear. What is causing this to happen and how can I fix it? I’ve had this on a few bikes and it can happen for a few reasons.

It it also seems to help the gears engage if you hold pressure on the gear lever a little longer as you release the clutch. And maybe be a bit more gentle on the throttle when changing. I have had bikes jump out of gear as you describe on a couple of occasions. I put it down to not having the gear properly engaged.
