What does shutter grille reduced power?
If the PCM detects a condition where it can’t operate the shutters, it will put the engine into a reduced power mode and alert the driver. The reduced power mode is not only activated to save the engine, but the automatic transmission that has a cooler behind the grille.
What is a shutter grille?
Active Grille Shutter. The active grille shutter is located at the front bumper lower opening. While driving, the active grille shutter system closes the shutter to reduce air flow to the engine compartment for the purpose of reducing aerodynamic drag and as a result improves the vehicle’s fuel efficiency.
What is honda active shutter grille?
The active shutter grille is positioned just behind the lower front fascia and in front of the radiator. The shutters close to enhance aerodynamics when the Odyssey is at speed. They open automatically when underhood systems need more cooling air.
How do active grille shutters work?
How does an Active Grille Shutter work? Open shutters allow air to flow through the radiator and into the engine compartment to promote cooling. When cooling air is not needed, the shutters close, rerouting air around the vehicle to reduce aerodynamic drag and fuel consumption.
What causes the Active Grille Shutter to stop?
Debris or snow caught in the shutters may prevent proper system operation. A DTC is recorded if the active grille shutter stops and is stuck within zone “A” and a stuck error is detected or if the active grille shutter stops at a position beyond zone “A” and an overrun error is detected.
How does Active Grille Shutters work on Honda Odyssey?
The module for the active grille shutters and PCM will store basic freeze frame information from when the code was set. Since 2017, Honda vehicles like the Odyssey and CR-V have featured active grille shutters – a system that optimizes aerodynamics by using vents to control airflow through the grille to the cooling system and engine compartment.
What’s the normal opening range for a Grille Shutter?
The active grille shutter normally stops within zone “A.” Normal opening range is defined by zone “B” (90° ± 20°). The active grille shutter actuator is equipped with a self-diagnosis function.
What was the problem with my Honda CRV shutter grille?
Biggest issue was in Houston during rush hour, hard to change lanes in traffic without power. We are not too confident in our dealer, but plan to take it there when we return. Have heard about issues in cold weather, have not read anything about issues in 80F. Temperature was just below halfway the whole time.
How do the shutters on the grille work?
Mounted ahead of the radiator, the active grille shutters feature motorized vanes the move to block airflow. Controlled by the car’s engine control module, the vanes can be in many positions – from fully closed to fully open – depending on the amount of cooling air required for the condenser and radiator.
