What does a Triumph T120 electric start kit include?
The kit includes a solenoid, heavy duty wiring, starter switch gear and a genuine Lucas starter motor and all gaskets. Please note, also included in the kit is a new nitrided crankshaft gear to replace the origional gear and a intermediate shaft bush to support the sprag gear/intermediate shaft. ( both not shown in the picture)
Why does my Bonneville 650 T120 not start?
Because its a kick start is the battery of primary importance? other than turning my key for headlights etc. Since im bypassing the battery by pushing down the hill a dozen times, and still wont start. Do you think I have to look further than the battery such as the points gap.
What to do if your Triumph bike won’t start?
If bike doesn’t start, then look elsewhere, relay, solenoid, starter, etc. I had the click problem REAL BAD with my 2009 America. After installing toggle switch, no more clicks and my bike even starts in freezing cold weather. My bike is an un-heated garage and there is no electric to plug in a battery tender.
What’s the problem with the Triumph starting process?
Some of the Triumph models have an electrical design problem. If you have a Triumph that keeps the headlight on throughout the starting process it draws too much juice and because of the voltage cut-off settings in the CPU it shuts down the starting process and all you get is “click.” The settings cannot be changed or re-mapped.
Can a Triumph T120 start without a battery?
But Triumph’s are generally forgiving and should start with a couple kicks when things are in order. Unless the bike has a pointless ignition like a Boyer unit installed, the battery shouldn’t matter much. So it’s weird that there battery condition seemed to coincide with the starting problems. Have you ever looked inside the points cover?
Do you need to replace spark plugs on Mikuni?
Make sure the wires are not old or cracked in any place and make sure there is no cracking on the cap or a missing boot around the base of the cap. Misfiring or jumping sparks can cause a real problem. Spark plug wires should be pliable (easily bent without cracking). If there are cracks in the wires on on the cap, you will have to replace them.
How to fix a 1970 Bonneville 650 T120 starting issue?
Yes….I meant if you remove a plug but keep the plug -wire attached, then kick it with the plug touching the engine so it grounds. If there’s a nice spark on both sides, then coils are OK. I’m going through steps to eliminate things first. And then moving to the next step. You mention cleaning carbs….did you dismantle them?
Where does spark come from on Mikuni jetting bike?
If you’re in a place without bright light, you should be able to see a bright blue spark coming from the plug’s electrode when it’s grounded against the head (while cranking the bike). And hopefully, there will be no other sparks emitting from either the lead wire or from cracks in the cap.
