What did they find in space?
Astronomers spotted the brightest light in the universe, found new planets circling distant stars, and detected a collision between a black hole and a neutron star that warped the fabric of space-time. In our own solar system, scientists also discovered new moons and evidence of violent collisions from the past.
How were Blackhole pictures taken?
A team formed to take on the challenge, creating a network of telescopes known as the Event Horizon Telescope, or the EHT. They set out to capture an image of a black hole by improving upon a technique that allows for the imaging of far-away objects, known as Very Long Baseline Interferometry, or VLBI.
Are there any mysterious objects in our Solar System?
In October 2017, astronomers detected a mysterious object floating through our solar system. They named it Oumuamua. It flew close to the Sun—reaching one-fourth the distance between the Sun and the Earth—before suddenly accelerating and escaping from our solar system.
Which is the largest object discovered in space?
One of these supervoids is the one of the largest discovered objects in space. Located three billion light-years away, the supervoid is so large that objects will take hundreds of millions of years to travel through it—even if the object is traveling at the speed of light.
Is the Oumuamua star still visible in space?
We don’t know what it’s doing now. After January 2018, ‘ Oumuamua was no longer visible to telescopes, even in space. But scientists continue to analyze the data gathered during the international observing campaign and crack open more mysteries about this unique interstellar visitor.
How big is the halo ring in space?
The vast, mysterious object is reminiscent of the Halo rings in the hit science fiction game series. The ring of nine vast, cataclysmic explosions is about seven billion light years from Earth and covers an area of sky more than 70 times the diameter of the full moon.
