What causes red exhaust?
The exhaust manifold and turbocharger glowing red just means that they’ve taken in a lot of heat from the exhaust gasses. This is a pretty normal behavior for combustion engines (both diesel and gas) under high load, especially with turbochargers.
Why is my son’s exhaust pipe Red Hot?
When my son starts his bike the exhaust pipe/header (?) immediately becomes extremely hot and within about 60 seconds it is red hot. I have read on the forum that bluing or yellowing can be the result of lean mixture, stuck or burnt valve, etc.
When does an exhaust pipe / muffler get hot?
The catalytic converter often reaches a temperature of 750 degrees. However, if you have more unburned gases leaving the combustion chamber or one of the cylinders is not working, you will experience a tremendous increase in temperature. The exhaust pipe muffler temperatures reach their peak when the car is on the road rather than when it’s idle.
Why would my exhaust manifold be glowing red hot?
In a 2002 Toyota Sienna i change the spark plugs after a 30 minute drive it stared shaking a it was night by that time we know it, that the manifold was red hot i disconnected the catalytic converter and still got red hot i don’t k now what can it be; how do i check if is late ignition timing or if is something more. 101 people found this helpful.
What should I do if my exhaust pipe is red?
Run a compression check. Its likely a burnt, stuck or broken exhaust valve. A compression check will show it pretty clearly. That sounds like a major problem and I wouldn’t start the bike before doing some serious checkups on it. What kind of bike is it?

Why does the exhaust light up when it’s Hot?
The exhaust glows red when the metal heats up to where it’s getting closer to its melting point. But there is no risk of the metal actually melting, as this requires quite a bit more heat, even from the point where it is visibly glowing red.
What causes a motorcycle exhaust pipe to glow red?
Single wall exhaust, ball park 1200 degree F combustion temps = glowing exhaust unless there is some cooling air over the header. Steel will glow red at 900 degrees F. Here’s a link for a forum thread on another group.
