What are the 4 wires on a trailer plug?
The color code for wiring harnesses can vary between manufacturers, but the general standard for 4-way plugs is as follows:
- Green: Right turn/brake light.
- Yellow: Left turn/brake light.
- Brown: Tail/running lights.
- White: Ground wire.
What causes trailer running lights to not work?
It could be a tow package fuse on the vehicle. Use the owners manual to find the locations of fuses/relays related to the tow package wiring to check them and replace as needed. If the issue is not a fuse or relay then you can test the vehicle side trailer connector using a circuit tester such as # 40376.
What is the red wire on a trailer plug?
The red wire is the turn signal wire and will be run to the green wire of your harness if its the right turn signal side, and the black wire will run to the brown wire of your harness.
Why is my trailer not getting any power?
If you aren’t getting any power on the wires going into the connector, then the connector itself isn’t the issue. There’s something going on with the factory trailer wiring. Since all the fuses are good there’s likely a short somewhere on the wiring.
What kind of plug do I need to charge my trailer?
The Anderson plug is most commonly used to charge the batteries in your trailer or caravan when you are driving. You can do this via a twelve pin plug, but we don’t recommend it. The power that is fed into the plug to charge the batteries is generally more than a twelve pin plug can handle.
How can I tell if my trailer has 12V power?
At that point, the vehicle will deliver the 12V power to your trailer connector and not before. I recommend using a circuit tester like # PTW2993 to test for the 12V power once you get that “trailer connected” message on the dash.
Why is my 7 way trailer not connected?
It can sense when a trailer is connected based on the voltage draw so it won’t sent a signal for 12V when using some testers, especially LED testers because there isn’t enough of a power draw. The system requires a power draw on the 7-way and then holding the brake pedal for about 3 seconds until your dash registers “trailer connected”.
