What are tagged frames?
Frame tagging is used to identify the VLAN that the frame belongs to in a network with multiple VLANs. That frame can then be forwarded out the trunk link port. Each switch can see what VLAN the frame belongs to and can forward the frame to corresponding VLAN access ports or to another VLAN trunk port.
What is tagged untagged and excluded?
Connect port 16 on switch #1 to port 16 switch #2. This cable will carry traffic from all 3 VLANs between the switches. These ports must be tagged in all 3 VLANs. VLAN 7 will include ports 1, 2, and 3 on switch #1 and ports 1 and 2 on switch #2. These ports must be untagged on VLAN 8 and excluded from VLANs 7 and 9.
What is the difference between tagged and untagged ports HP?
tagged – means that packets that have a valid vlan tag for this vlan id will be accepted on this port. packets without vlan tag will not be accepted. untagged – means that if there is packets on this port that have no vlan id set will have their vlan id tag set to this vlan by the switch.
What happens to untagged frames?
When a frame leaves an untagged port, the switch strips the VLAN tag from the frame. The traffic is then forwarded as normal.
