Is Toslink dying?
Optical cable, which was the digital audio transfer method of choice for decades, is starting to die out as Toslink is replaced by HDMI. Through the ’90s and 2000s, the optical cable was near ubiquitous with it being the best way to get Dolby Digital and DTS from your cable/satellite box, TiVo, or DVD player.
Is Mini Toslink the same as Spdif?
SPDIF differ (or how they are similar). To make it simpler, let’s just say that TOSLINK is a type of fiber-optic SPDIF connector. That means it is an alternative to the coaxial cable with the RCA connector that some SPDIF comes with.
What is Mini Optical Cable?
Mini-TOSLINK is a standardized optical fiber connector smaller than the standard square TOSLINK connector commonly used in larger consumer audio equipment. TOSLINK inputs are commonly found on modern AV receivers, soundbars, and some high-end desktop speakers, and studio monitor speakers.
Are optical cables fragile?
Fiber optic cable has typically been categorized as fragile, like glass, which the actual fiber is, of course. The impurities absorb as much as 1,000 times more light than optical fiber and concentrate stresses that reduce its strength and can cause cracks. Optical fiber is made by an entirely different process.
Can I connect optical out to Spdif in?
You can link up your optical and SPDIF ports on your preamp box with either two optical cables or one optical cable and one coaxial cable respectively. Coaxial with SPDIF might also be the way to go since the more expensive optical cables can’t be bent or pinched tightly.
