Is the drain plug on my ascent too tight?
Drain plug too tight. I bought a 2020 ascent in August’19. I have never changed oil myself before and wanted to try. 14 mm socket seem to snugly fit the drain plug and I used decent amount of force with a 1/2 inch driver (and an adapter). I still couldn’t break it free.

Most of vehicles have the over tightened oil plug from the factory. Try the ‘shock’ method of loosening. Take the socket wrench and tap the handle with a hammer. Aluminum oil pan with a steel drain plug. Over time the steel drain plug will stress the aluminum threads in the oil pan each time it’s tightened to where it strips the threads out of the oil pan. Why is my oil pan plug not coming out?
The oil pan plug on my 2000 Toyota LandCruiser was stripped over 10 years ago. It was drilled out and a Helicoil possibly used to repair it. When I went to get oil changed today I was told the plug is just spinning and isn’t coming out; the pan is not leaking.
