The second-generation TL (now called 3.2 TL) was released in 1998 and was now derived off the US-market Honda Accord platform.

What kind of transmission does a Honda TL use?

In general, Honda 3-shaft 5 speed transmissions are interchangeable. Since Honda made some changes that greatly improved the reliability after 2005, what most people are doing is replacing their 2nd gen TL transmission with a unit sourced from a 2006 or 2007 Honda Accord V6 (non-hybrid).

Which is better the Acura TL or the Honda Accord?

If features made the car, I would definately get the Acura TL. Unfortunately, this is not true and the Honda Accord beats the TL in drivability. For example, the Accord’s rear seat is much more comfortable and it’s 3 liter engine is much smoother than the Acura.

Can a 2001 Honda Accord offer traction control?

To respond to your post (wenyue) yes the 2001 Accord does offer traction control now but when I got my 2000TL last year 2000 Accord did not have it or sideairbags. Like I said I was going to get the Accord EX V6 back in 98 or 99 but I just had paid off my 94 Accord EX 5sp.

Can you swap transmission on 2nd generation Acura TL?

Some of this will apply to the ’99 model as well, but since it uses a 4 speed transmission you cannot swap in any of the newer 5 speed transmissions including the ’06-07 Accord which is recommended.
