What should the temp be on a Jeep Commander?
In one thread a forum member said he purchased an infra-red heat sensor and shot it at the tranny when the light came on, only to find that the temp on the tranny pan was 180 degrees. If the tranny was overheating, would it show on the tranny pan temp with a infra-red sensor, or would this temp be cooler than the inside of the tranny?

An other member found the PCM at fault. On 2005 and on JGC the TCM (transmission control module) is integral to the PCM. The temperature sensor signal goes to the PCM and this one will trigger the overtemp light. What it the PCM? Powertrain Control Module.

The Jeep is back from the tranny shop, and the mechanic said he can’t justify doing anything at this point, as the codes don’t tell him anything specific that is wrong with the tranny, and the filters, and fluid, which he did change, looked good. Also said there is nothing he can find wrong with the torque converter.

What kind of engine does a Jeep Commander have?
This vehicle has the 4.7 engine with the automatic trans. Currently 130,000 miles on the odometer. I have owned this Jeep since new. This is an intermittent problem that has been going on for a few months. There doesn’t seem to be anything unusual in the way the tranny shifts.
