What kind of spring does a Kawasaki KX250 use?
Kawasaki finally dropped the progressive-rate shock spring that has hampered the rear of the KX250 for the last couple years. Switching to a straight-rate 5.0 kg/mm spring allows the KX to resist the temptation to drop down into the suspension stroke (which, paradoxically, makes the 2000 rear end too stiff through mid-sized bumps).
Which is better 2001 Kawasaki KX250 or 2000?
A straight-rate spring keeps the rear of the 2001 KX held higher, which allows it to take advantage of the mellower damping curve at the top of the stroke (saving the firm damping for when it is really needed). In stock trim, the 2001 KX250 rear suspension has more potential than the 2000 system.
When did Kawasaki KX125 / KX250 come out?
However, I looked through all the service manuals for the KX125/KX250 in the 1994-2007 year range, and feel that 95% of it is the same. Along with the video, you should follow along with the service manual for service limits, torque values, and exploded diagrams.
What kind of plating does a Kawasaki KX125 use?
Kawasaki had their own version of “Nikasil” plating called Electrofusion up until 2003. It’s know not to be the best or as durable as other platings. As you can see in the pics below, my plating was worn super thin in spots and beginning to flake off as well. Now, a new cylinder costs $350+ from Kawasaki.

What are the valve covers on a Kawasaki KX250 Kips?
The KX250 KIPS also features two large cavities to allow for dissipation of the compression wave that travels back up the exhaust pipe at low to mid rpm. Its important that the two valve covers on the cylinder be sealed with gaskets and it is normal for large amounts of black sludge to accumulate under those valve covers.
When did Kawasaki start using the Kips system?
The 1993 KX250 was the first year for the KIPS system used through present day models. The system uses a single wedge and flapper valve for the main exhaust port and two drum shaped valves for the sub exhaust ports.
