Why was the RD 350 discontinued?
Finally the RD350 was discontinued by Yamaha in 1990 after some years of frustration. The RD350 was a bike way ahead for its time and especially in the Indian context, the motorcycle was not suited for the Indian consumer. It had way too high power for an average bloke to control and results were disastrous!

Unstabilized gas in a motorcycle can start going bad in about 30 days, especially when it is not being used. The exposure to oxygen eventually changes the chemistry of gas which can lead to gum and varnish deposits. Gas should not be used if it has been sitting for longer than 6 months.

Found a boat with a pair of 2008 Yamaha 350 with about 300 hours on them. I have read the early modes of these motors had some problems but I wonder if some of the bad rap is just people who have never owned them but read someone say they are problem child’s.

Personally, I would avoid the 350s. The issues are real and although they have supposedly been fixed in later models, Yamaha had to extend warranty and promise to replace flywheels as necessary and some folks had to have that done several times. The loose flywheel issue could lead to major powerhead failure.

My bro has triple 2013 F350 Yamahas on yellowfin. The flywheel issue is a pita. Every 80 hours of operation between 3500 and 4200 rpms, the flywheel has to be replaced due to vibration possibly snapping the crankshaft in half.
