How does double strike work in MTG?
What is Double Strike? Double strike is a variation on first strike that allows creatures to deal damage during the first strike and regular combat steps. So, if a creature with double strike has two power, it’ll deal two damage twice (four damage in total)!
Do you have to block double strike twice?
Double Strike means that the creature deals both First-strike and regular combat damage. It doesn’t matter whether it’s blocked or not. Do note, however, that if a creature with double strike is blocked it won’t deal damage to the player, even if the first strike damage kills the blocker (unless it has Trample).
Can a creature have double strike twice?
No. The trigger, “Whenever ~ attacks” means “Whenever ~ is declared as an attacking creature”. A creature with double strike will deal damage in the two combat damage steps, but will only be declared as an attacker once per turn. (Normally, unless some other effect is creating additional combat phases.)
Can you change Soulbond?
NO. You may only pair when either enters the battlefield. They remain paired for as long as you control both of them. another unpaired creature implies the creature with soulbound must also be unpaired.
What happens if you block double strike?
A card with double strike will assign combat damage in the first combat damage step. So if you attack or block with a creature that has double strike, that card will deal damage first and will not take into consideration any damage being dealt by the opposing creature.
Does double strike affect blocking?
Yes, double strike and first strike work while blocking. Effectively, there is a “first strike combat damage step” in which one set of double strike damage is dealt, and then a normal combat damage step, where all other combat damage is dealt.
Does Soulbond use the stack?
Soulbond is a set of triggered abilities, they will use the stack and can be responded to. Do note that if a creature with Soulbond is already paired its soulbond ability will not trigger for any other creatures entering the battlefield.
