How does a car window door track work?
The principles of the window door track are pretty much the same for all cars: the glass moves up or down by the actuation of a scissors-style lift that’s operated by the crank handle or motor, and the glass is held in the correct position as it moves by rubber-lined tracks on either end of the pane of glass.
How can I get my car window back on track?
Examine the panel for screws and bolts, and remove them first. Then take off the door crank handle, if necessary. Pop the door panel off by inserting the panel tool behind the edges of the door panel and popping it off. Unplug any wiring, and place the door panel to the side. You now have access to the interior of the door and the glass panel.
How can I get my Window to sit on the track?
Move the glass onto the window track. Move your window glass until it is lined up on the window track again. Look for areas where the track is pinched, pressed down, or blocked and adjust the window accordingly. When you’re finished, your window should sit entirely within the track.
How much does it cost to replace an off track window?
If the track is rusted or bent to the point of being unusable, you will need to replace the window regulator and, most likely, the window motor. Depending on your car’s make and model, replacement regulators typically cost between $190 and $270, not including a motor. Add adhesive if your window track is dry or rough.

Why did my GM front driver side window break?
The original white plastic connector that clips to the window support snapped and caused all the wires that pull the window up to get bent up and damaged, so I couldn’t simply replace the plastic piece. Motor was perfectly fine though so I didn’t want the full kit.
