How does 4WD work on a Honda Pilot?

How does 4WD work on a Honda Pilot?

A read of the owners manual is well worth it, as is a read of a few of the on-line descriptions. The Pilots with 4WD operate primarily as front wheel drive. When the system detects wheel slippage, it sends power to the rear wheels. You can lock the system by coming to a stop, and engaging the VTM-4 button.

Why are the front wheels not engaged on a Honda Pilot?

One of the problems with standard AWD systems is that the front wheels will not engage if the wheel is turned (I know this from experience with a AWD van stuck in the mud.) As the Pilot’s front wheels are always engaged, if you need to steer out of a hole you will have that power to pull you out.

When does Honda Pilot shut off VTM-4 lock?

The Pilot shuts off VTM-4 lock after 20 mph because there are idiots out there that would try and turn with the system on at high speeds. The Pilot will never be a rock crawler and most are used in place of mini-vans – the system it has is sufficient for snowy weather. The full time system would also a hit on mpg.

What kind of transmission problem does a Honda Pilot have?

Hopefully the repair will last me to 300.000 miles. I have a Honda Pilot 2004, with approximately 60 K miles and it has a transmission problem. While drving on the Highway at 65 mph, the transmission came on and the VT-4 light came on. I am 100% sure, I had not push the VT-4 light on.

When to engage VTM-4 in Honda Pilot?

I own a 2007 Pilot with Vtm-4 and you can only engage it when the vehicle is stopped and shifting to, first, second or Reverse only. The biggest caution is to not operate Vtm-4 on dry pavement damage may occur to the rear differential.
