Also put some blue tape a couple of inches from the end of the tube to help see how far inside the axle the fill tube actually went. Draining the axle was easy, but the fluid was surprisingly dark. Almost as dark as used engine oil. The magnetized drain plug had tons of black scum on it, but cleaned up nicely with carb cleaner.

FWIW, I wonder in retrospect if I had all that old fluid come out of the fill plug when was 1st removed was because the rear of the car was up on jack stands. The fill plug is toward the front of the differential axle and was a tab lower than the rear side. To keep the axle level probably should have had the front of the car up on stands as well.
Can a third part mechanic use Honda fluid?

- Remove the fill plug first to ensure that it’s not seized on there
- Carefully remove the drain plug and drain the fluid into a pan
