How big is a 60 amp main fuse?

How big is a 60 amp main fuse?

I have bought a 60 amp fuse, ( i thought you could only get them from the leccy board) The mains tails are 25mm, would it be okay to put an 80 amp fuse in as this is the 2nd time it has blown. The house was extended to double its size about 10 years ago and im wondering if they forgot to increase the fuse size. Thoughts please.

When did they increase the main fuse size?

The house was extended to double its size about 10 years ago and im wondering if they forgot to increase the fuse size. Thoughts please. Perhaps they didn;t forget, perhaps no-one asked or perhaps that’s the maximum the supply cables can handle.

What should I do if my fuse keeps blowing?

This is basic stuff, if a fuse keeps blowing you don;t just stick a bigger one in to solve the symptom of a problem. Contact the DNO, get them to come out and replace the fuse and also mention the supply problem and let them upgrade the fuse size if they can or if not then get the supply upgraded.

Can a 80A fuse be upgraded to a 100A fuse?

My supply company upgraded my main fuse to 80A and fitted a dp switch . they usually only upgrade to a 80A fuse from a 60A unless there was storage heaters in place then it would be a 100A fuse . Always best to check with DNO about upsizing main fuse .

What causes a fuse to blow on an ignition switch?

The good news is that there aren’t too many things in the ignition system itself that can blow your fuse, particularly if the the ignition coil draws its current directly from the battery or alternator via a relay. If that’s the case, then your fault is almost certainly in the ignition switch itself or the wires going to it.

How many amps does a 100A fuse blow?

These can be as low as 2 to 1 (100A main versus 50A branch fuse = 2 to 1). But watch for old installations where connections have deteriorated and/or fuses have been in service for a long time.

Why does the main fuse blow and not a lower Amp Fuse?

The loading on each branch circuit always remains below its respective fuse “minimum melting time.” You can’t detect it using a multimeter, so R.A.M. should connect a recording ammeter to each line-side phase conductor feeding the panel, for at least one week, to see this effect. —F.M.P. A.

What’s the difference between a 50A fuse and a main fuse?

These can be as low as 2 to 1 (100A main versus 50A branch fuse = 2 to 1). But watch for old installations where connections have deteriorated and/or fuses have been in service for a long time. A multimeter isn’t likely to uncover such problems. Troubleshoot connections while under full load with an infrared imaging instrument to find “hot spots.”
