How big are the head bolts for a brake caliper?
Personally I don’t go in for torque wrenches that much, fair enough to get a set of head bolts all at the same starting point before angle tightening but for stuff like this, it’s a short breaker bar and a good yank. . What happens if you snap the lower caliper mounting bracket?
The spindle/hub part is not threaded. So, once I loosen the rotor, I just need to pull away the caliper bracket (and stuck bolt shaft) away in one piece. Only thing holding it on is the other bolt, right? WOW – those are beastly bolts to shear off. What were you using?
What are the torque specs for front disc brakes?
Torque the mounting bolts to 25 ft. lbs. (34 Nm). If the brake hose was removed, torque the union bolt to 21 ft. lbs. (29 Nm). This is gold!! Thank you, i had a google buy couldnt find much for torque specs, might need to get more creative in my googling, took your advice and brought the Haynes book, getting exctied!! This is gold!!
What kind of bolts do I need for a 180 brake?
The bolts are the correct length if if used with the 180 mount. If they were shorter and still used with a 180 mount you probably wouldn’t have sufficient thread engagement in the lowers. If to think about it – the bolt needs to take up those washers, the mount and the caliper.
How much torque does a brake caliper need?
Because caliper bolts MUST stay on, they need a LOT of torque. AutoZone, for example, recommends 113 pound feet of torque. To put that number in perspective, the average person can (according to NASA) apply about 15 pound feet with a bare hand.
How big are the bolts for front brakes?
Used a 12 point 16mm socket for the front bracket bolts, and a T… 50 (i think) torx for the front caliper pins. Going to need to get some new hardware next time. Gonna see if there are “normal” aftermarket replacements.
Why are brake caliper bolts called bracket bolts?
Plain and simple. They’re often called “caliper bracket bolts” because they attach to the part of your caliper called the bracket, and hold it tight to the spindle or steering knuckle. Torque Talk… Now a word about torque, the twisting force that tightens a bolt. Because caliper bolts MUST stay on, they need a LOT of torque.
When do I change the bolts on my front brakes?
The bolts must have changed in the later years, MY14 seems to be when a lot changes took place, that might be the cut-off year. Its at least 2016-2018. My 2011 without a doubt is a typical 6 sided bolt head, holding the caliper bracket/adapter to the steering knuckle.
