When to start block heater on Subaru Crosstrek?
Upon the recommendation of my mechanic I had installed a block heater on both my first and current Forester to deal with the cold-blooded nature of Subaru engines. I plug in at night and have a timer start the heater approximately 3 hours before I leave for work in the morning.
Can a block heater be installed without coolant?
I was able to install my block heater without draining the coolant. You have to be ready with the block heater (I use a liquid Teflon tape on the treads) and do a quick swap the old plug & get the heater in there! It is possible.
How big of a drain plug do I need for a Subaru Forester?
Here is the image of drain plug: c. 1/2 inch extension/ holding bar (note- Very important..get the one with moving head.) f. 36/any other size socket for tightening block. b. drain radiator coolant via radiator drain plug (note- it will be easier if you attach a small pipe to drain pipe.
