Can a motor run, but not under load?
So a motor with a faulty or open circuit switch will not start even under no load, just hums but will go if give shaft a spin (in either direction). however the pulleys, belts and drive shaft couplings you describe sound like much higher than this. Would you be able to post a picture?

Motor will not accelerate under load. I have a 1978 Mercury 500 50 hp thunderbolt. The motor will start up and idle fine. With ears hooked to the motor using the fast idle or by puting it in gear, it will rev up just fine.
Why does my boat run at the same RPM every time?
Thats the problem, it could be either. If the trigger doesn’t work properly it could be firing the cylinders at the wrong time or not at all which would mean loss of power. If it is the high speed windings it will run fine at slower speeds and dog out at roughly the same RPM every time.
Is there a combustion engine on a winnower?
There is no combustion engine attached to the equipment (an old stationary winnower). The electric motor drives the equipment directly. There is no name plate on the motor, at least not any more. But I do wonder whether the motor is appropriate for the equipment.

What should I do if my motor is bogging down?
Check the pisser hole on the starboard rear of the motor, and the cooling spray out the two exhaust bypass holes on the centre of the shaft, to make sure the flow is good. If the flow is not good, then cooling is your problem and you should not run the motor until it’s been fixed.
